Guess who?

As a long-serving troubadour of the folk and acoustic music scene, master songwriter, storyteller and Rear Admiral, Steve Knightley has spent much of his life on the road, collecting songs, stories, anecdotes and Rowlocks (well, one of those) – with the odd disaster along the way. Here's Steve talking about it.

Steve  returned to Widecombe to present 'Roadworks'– a show which built on the success of his sell-out 2018 tour of The Cafe on the Green*: 'Songs and Stories'. This stripped-back, one-man show that’s infused with wit, warmth and alchemy was presented for the first time at St Pancras Church** in the middle of the village. There was a bar in the church serving Pimms among other things, run by the Widecombe Community Hall Committee.

Below, on You Tube, is the real truth of life on the road with Steve Knightley, as divulged by his sidekick Barry a few years ago.

*And a few other places, I believe.
** I mean the first time Steve's come to the church - not the first time he's performed Roadworks, which it isn't.

And now for the comments from audience members:

Thanks for another top-notch evening in a wonderful setting. Was a stunning drive home across t’moor. Martine

Well, thank you Daf, that was certainly a pleasant way to spend a few
hours - the church, the music, the moors & the moon - all very
delightful and even after all these years of seeing M K, I still enjoy
watching & hearing him perform.
Until the next time and thanks again. Frances

Thanks SO much for organising last night Daf! What an absolute treat it was - hubby is going to be SO miffed he had to miss it, Pat

Fantastic evening Daf, thank you so much - Widecombe Fair sent shivers down my spine! Mandy

Another entertaining eve Daf. Thank you. X Barbara

Hey…Daf
You’ve done it again ( and again and again !! )
Really good night.
And so well supported.
Amazing these people like Steve who can carry a whole evening solo .
And isn’t our church such an excellent venue .
Well done
Looking forward to the next one !
Cheers
Ros

"Great night again at Widecombe Sailing Club with Steve Knightley and his 'Roadworks' tour with songs and stories of the road. Spine chilling stuff when Steve wandered up the isle in Widecombe Church singing his song 'Widecombe Fair', no amplification and no instrument most of the time......brzzz New songs and some different versions of old favourites." - John

We all had a wonderful evening MANY THANKS ! Lisa.

Photos from the evening are trickling in...
