In 1995 Paul Hutchinson (accordion) and Paul Sartin (oboe, violin and vocals) shared a musical passion borne out of the desire to earn sufficient money to support their extravagant lifestyles. Their amazing musicianship coupled with wry humour stunned audiences around Europe and the States.
As a singer, oboist, violinist, composer and arranger Paul performs and records extensively with BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Winners and Nominees Bellowhead, Belshazzar’s Feast and Faustus. He edits publications of music manuscripts, delivers workshops, and is Consultant and Director of the Andover Museum Loft Singers. Having gained an Honours Degree and Choral Scholarship at Oxford, he gained a First for his Masters in Traditional Music, and in 2007 recieved a 75th Anniversary Award from the English Folk Dance and Song Society. His recent composition, ‘The Hartlepool Monkey’, for Streetwise Opera, was nominated for a BASCA award.
Paul is well known from his work with Hoover the Dog, Karen Tweed and the Playford Liberation Front. He is a superlative accordion player with a unique style inspired by church organ music, violins & concertinas! Paul is an experienced workshop leader tutoring at Cecil Sharp House on a regular basis, Hands On weekends, Folkworks Summer Schools and Halsway Manor. His favourite colour is no longer pink.

Paul and Paul, less confusingly known as Belshazzar's Feast, came to the Cafe on the Green on Wednesday 22 May. The menu was a choice of:
Steak and Ale Pie
Chicken, Ham Hock and Leek Pie
Mushroom and Spinach Pie
All served with Mash, Selection of Seasonal Veg and Gravy. It was utterly lovely and lots of empty plates were returned to the kitchen...
Here are a few comments from members of the audience:
Sitting at home trying to wear Benji (aka Mr Duracell!) out before bedtime, after yet another fabulous night at Widecombe Sailing Club, this time for Belshazzar's Feast.
The two Pauls were on fine form and kept the crowd entertained with both their musical skill and banter, honed over the last 20 years together.
Big thanks to Daf Edwards and the rest of the team for putting on a great night.
Now, how to wear out this Collie dog.........
Many thanks for last night. It takes a lot of background organising to put on an event and you do it so well. Venue, company, music, food & wine - a winning formula. I think BF went down well judging by the laughter in the room. It takes skill to play music badly and yet be entertaining and even though we saw them 3 times in Ibiza, Paul Sartin playing the oboe bagpipe style always gets me laughing.
Thanks again and hope to see you soon.
Lots of love
Frances
Thanks Daf
Another success ….
Thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Great entertainment, good food (so efficiently served) & timing of the evening to be highly commended!!
Look forward to the next one.
Cheers

"That was a magical evening, they were outstanding" - David, in conversation a day or two later.
And now for the photos, taken as usual by Andrew Lester:
