Sunday 14th May saw the return of the popular Ruggle Regatta. Held throughout the afternoon in the garden of the Rugglestone Inn, this event last year caused gridlock in Widecombe, but in a nice way. (If there is such a thing as 'nice' gridlock.)
This year I didn't hear of gridlock and the queueing for drinks was constant but steadier, so the bar staff were very happy. We had a different line-up: Soloists Martyn Babb and John Culf, band Ravens Return, members of Denbury Folk, plus the Widecombe Singers, morris dancers Newton Bushel and the irrepressible JAR, back for another go.
Tickets for this jobby are non-existent as we don't feel we can charge people to come into the Rugglestone's garden, (particularly as that's where their loos are and any diners feeling the need may feel a bit miffed if asked to cough up).
